Peter and Judith Rothenberg operate their small 4 acre farm in Northford, CT and share the sustainably grown, nutrient dense produce they grow at local farmers’ markets. Located just outside the busy city of New Haven, Northfordy provides the peaceful sanctuary you’d expect to find in the quiet foothills of Vermont. Northfordy's produce is Certified Naturally Grown.
The Rothenbergs see their farm as an important opportunity to educate themselves and the community about sustainability. “We strive to create a sustainable eco-system in which the plants feed the animals, the animals feed the plants with minimal outside inputs," says Peter. Many people visit Northfordy to see the innovative way the farm operates, and the Rothenberg’s enjoy when visitors can interact with the food they grow and the animals they raise – “watching a child unearth a potato or a carrot from the ground for the first time is such a special thing.” If you would like to visit the farm, please be sure to call ahead to make an appointment. Volunteers are always welcome!
To get a taste of Northfordy’s harvest, head to the farmers’ market—one of Peter's favorite places to talk food and farming with all of his customers. Ask about this year’s batch of maple syrup, or order various cuts of lamb and goat . Natural wool fiber and yarn from Peter’s own sheep are also available,
