Fred and Stacia Monahan have been farming since they were both kids. In fact, the two met while working at the same farm. Since then, besides raising two sons and one daughter, the Monahans started their own farm right around the corner from where Fred grew up. Their stand started out as a table on a nearby friend's farm, but quickly expanded as the demand for their fresh vegetables and sweet corn grew. They now operate on over 50 acres and grow a wide variety of vegetables throughout the year.  The farm stand has blossomed into a full fledged store, offering everything grown on the farm and even some other local products such as soap. In 2008 they started their own CSA program which has grown exponentially to the over 300 shares they now offer. You can also find Stacia, and sometimes Fred (though his preferred vocation is working on the farm), at one of several farmers' markets in the area, including three in New Haven. The Monahans take fierce pride in their work and pleasure in growing the highest quality produce for families to enjoy. And if you are looking for vegetable transplants, Stone Gardens has a spectacular selection. Visit them 8 months out of the year, from May to December. And don't forget to ask about their farm raised chicken, turkeys, pork and beef!
