High in the hills of eastern Connecticut is a family farm that does dairy the old fashioned way - healthy cows fed local grasses and grain, free of artificial hormones. Mountain Dairy has been making and delivering milk to neighboring communities since 1871. Their local dairy products are delivered to homes, institutions and stores in eastern CT and the Hartford area.

Mountain Dairy's quality milk has a strong and loyal following. "Our customers say they can taste the difference. Their kids won't drink milk that isn't ours," says farmer Jim Stearns. "We're always hearing that our milk is so fresh it lasts well beyond the date on the carton." A full range of dairy products is available from the farm, including their famous farm made egg nog, which comes from a 45 year-old family recipe.

Healthy milk comes from healthy cows. Cows roam the farm's green pastures, and their calves are born outside in the farm's 'maternity meadow,' just as nature intended. "We get calls from people driving by, excited to tell us there's another new calf in the meadow," says Jim. "Having our cows born outside is better for the mother and the baby."
