The Stonington Farmers Market, located adjacent to the Town Dock, began in 1997 under the initiative of Geoffrey Little and has proved an enormously popular addition to life in the Borough. Twenty to twenty-five vendors assemble beside the playground each Saturday from 9am-12pm from June through November and offer locally grown vegetables and fruits, jams, all sorts of breads, pies and baked goods, lamb, fish, shrimp, scallops, flowers, decorative plants and more, depending on the season. The Stonington Village Improvement Association oversees this market under a tent in the center of the market and provides fresh coffee, kindly donated by Water Street Cafe. SVIA also sells merchandise such as t-shirts, hats and canvas bags, the proceeds of which help fund the market and other village projects.
Starting November 22, 2025, SVIA will be sponsoring an indoor winter market, hosted by the Stonington Community Center. It will run Saturdays at 10am-1pm from November 22 through the end of April 2025.
